Kitchen Project - Before

Our latest project is repainting the kitchen. Before, we had striped yellow wallpaper and a hideous floral border. We'd long ago taken down the border and most of the wallpaper. But for months we've had segments of wallpaper still up, used for testing paint colors.

Kitchen Project - Prep Work

Mark did an excellent job preparing the walls, ceiling, and trim. I came home from work on a Saturday to find him wearing a respirator to power sand the walls, with all the dust contained by a floor-to-ceiling sheet of plastic, and a fan blowing it out the window. I helped out by sanding about 6 inches of trim, plus I did A LOT of shopping. -S.

Kitchen Project - During

Pope Painting Company came out of retirement to help us with our project. There is no greater love than this, that a man help his friend paint on his day off. With Captain Ben leading the charge, we painted ceiling, trim, and walls in record time, but with excellent attention to detail.

Phase 3 Complete!

Before prep work was done, Mark reported that "Phase I is complete." When I looked at him quizzically, he clarified, " Phase I is buying cool stuff at Home Depot." So Phase II was prep work, and Phase III was painting. Here is a sneak preview. We'll post more "after" pictures after the next phase, new floor. -s.

Sandy was a little nervous about the goings-on. We thought it was giving her grey hairs, but realized she had "helped" with the trim paint. Our loaner cat, Bailey, pursued his usual activities.

Winter on the Chesapeake

Saturday's weather was very mild, so Mark took Sandy for a drive to romp on the beach. If you've never seen "dog joy," here it is.

Mark captured this scene on the Bay this weekend. The mute swans spend the winter here. These swans were part of a group of about 20 that Mark and Sandy happened upon.

Christmas part IV

On Saturday afternoon, Shannon's brother Bart, sister-in-law Tracy, and neice Sara joined us for more gifts and another great meal. Among other gifts, Santa brought Sara a doll and stroller. To Sandy's chagrin, Sara pushed the stroller for miles around the kitchen and living room. As you can see in the second picture, it's amazing Sara doesn't think the world revolves around her! Her sense of wonder made it a very special day.
