The Salty Dog went back into the water today, affording us the perfect opportunity for Nate's first boat ride. He proved he's no fair-weather sailor, enjoying the outing despite the cold, rainy weather.
We did bring along his (tiny) life vest, but after the photo op at the helm, he stayed warm and dry down below with Mama, who started with the ever-important vocabulary training. No way will our son recognize a licensed cartoon character before he knows basic boat terminology!

Sorry about the hiatus from the blog; the new boss insisted. But he granted a dispensation today, in honor of the holiday.
I am so grateful for the mothers in my life. My mom has given blood, sweat, and tears to make all the little and big moments of my life possible. My grandmothers have taught me what strength is, and gentleness. Mark's mom raised the world's finest man, and trusted me to take care of him the rest of the way. My friends who are moms (by nature, by miracles of science, and by the beauty of adoption) have blessed me with their wisdom, their humor, and their understanding.
And now, embarking on my own adventure, I am so grateful to be a mother. Already, I am learning more from Nate than I am teaching him. I am humbled by the responsibility, buoyed by the love. And hopeful that I can make all those mamas who went before me proud.
