{this moment} Big Boy Bed

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo, no words, capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. {this moment} Ten Years!!!

Ten years ago, Shannon took  the *right* wrong turn, ending up aboard the Schooner Woodwind (instead of what she had planned for the day) where she met Mark. We celebrated with a sail this week.

Fathers' Day - Antique and Classic Boat Show

Does this look like something Mark would like? Yeah, we thought so, too. We celebrated Fathers' Day early today, driving to St. Michaels, MD for the Antique and Classic Boat Show at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. We enjoyed a crab cake picnic lunch, ice cream, and the lighthouse and exhibits on the Museum grounds.

Mark walked around photographing the many beautiful boats (and a few cars) on display, while Mama watched Nate decorate (ha!) and sail his model boat.

A(nother) wonderful day together. Mama thinks her little man has a pretty great Daddy, and Nate seems to agree:

Sailabration

We headed to Baltimore today for the Star-Spangled Sail-A-Bration, a visitation by tall ships from around the world to commemorate the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the penning of our national anthem.

Nate was mildly interested in the ships, but very interested in the fountains, the flags, the helicopter overhead, the pirate statue, and the dragon pedalboats in the Harbor. We couldn't refuse when he asked to ride on one, and couldn't have timed it better. During our half-hour ride, we witnessed the fireboat spraying water, heard cannon fire from one of the ships, and glimpsed a Blue Angels flyover.

A charming morning in Charm City. Or, as Nate said on the drive home, "We had a fun adventure tonight!"

This one deserves some words, although I don't have any that do the moment justice. My grandmother, Alma, has been hospitalized since a medical emergency two weeks ago. This past weekend, my grandfather Ben, who'd been riding 45 minutes every day to visit her, developed a severe pneumonia, and was hospitalized closer to home. As it became clear that Granny would not bounce back, it devastated us to think that Papaw might not be able to say goodbye.

The wonderfully caring nursing staff at AAMC arranged a private ambulance transfer, free of charge, for Papaw to visit the hospital where Granny was. They persuaded an understandably reluctant doctor to sign off on it. They gave him extra breathing treatments to lessen the risk, and sent oxygen with him.

There's no way to encapsulate 67 years of marriage, or 92 years of life, but they gave us 30 minutes to try to do it justice. And we are forever grateful.

Once Upon A Time

Sir Nate had the honour of attending the Fourth Birthday Celebration of Princess Alexandra at Pope Castle. Sporting a handmade chain mail shirt and tunic, he hesitantly tried the bounce castle, drank bubbly (sparkling cider) from his chalice, and enjoyed the fondant peas from the beautiful cake.

{this moment} 'waxin

Waxin' (relaxing) in the "seeing chair. Can see the pool." Let's just pretend not to see the weeds, ok?
